A7V v Schneider? and other matters.

Just received Les Chars Français au Combat, with the free ECPAD DVD, which is, indeed , 55 minutes of bliss.

In the book there is a photograph from a private collection. It's taken from an aircraft or balloon and shows an A7V and Schneider in very close proximity to each other in a clearing in a forest alongside a very steep ravine. The author says that "in October 1918 Lt. Barnsby and 2nd Lt. Cossin of Groupement II spent 15 days working to try and bring back an enemy tank", and wonders if this is a photograph of the incident.

I'm not posting it here for copyright reasons, but it does seem to show that the two types encountered each other, though not necessarily in combat. Does this mean anything to anyone?

Bonjour James,

This photo was probably taken on Bourron's shooting Range.
Bourron was just south of Fontainebleau's forest. After March 18 German's attack, this tank's camp was built, to take place of Champlieu for Renault FT units.

You can see rocks in the rear, exactly like in Fontainebleau's forest.
This photo is, sometimes, on E-bay. I know three photos took on the same place with these two tanks, but I have not them in good quality.

For me the A7V is Elfreide. This tank was tested their (and also in Satory).
It's probably a French military photo, but  I don't known date and number's mission.

In Canadian sector, Elfreide was just on first line trenches and the SRR don't used Schneider to repair and pick up the tank. Perhaps Baby Holt (but I am not sure of that).

btw: the tanks name is Elfriede, not Elfreide ;o)
