US M1918 Caisson for the "French 75mm"

In the last week I have gotten a US M1918 Caisson box, pintle hitch, prop stand and Archibald Wheel set for the French 75mm mle/1897.  This caisson also matches up to my US M1918 Caisson Limber and of course the 75mm mle/97 gun itself.  I have also put together two of the six horse team's M1916 Harnessing and two M1904 McClellan saddles.

For the Caisson what is missing is the under-frame and axle.  I have made a pattern from an original under-frame so I will be able to manufacture a replacement.  However, if anyone has an original frame and axle for sale or trade for the M1918 Caisson I am very interested.

This is the link to the M1918 Caisson web page:

There is a great deal of work yet to go on this one but I belive it is a good start.

I find it interesting that in adapting the 75mm M1897, the US Army opted to design, and build their own models of the limber and cassion; along traditional lines for those vehicles rather than the French models.   After 1914 mode of employment had changed, and cassions no longer acted as splinter protection placed beside the piece.
Good luck on the restorations efforts !

I have completed the work on the US M1918 Caisson for the French 75mm mle/97.  It is now painted in the US two color camouflage.  This was the camouflage pattern applied in the factory.  I hope you enjoy the photos.  I will update the page with text soon:
