Hornsby, Roberts, James, Akroyde, Track and Engine patents
Permalink

A number of patents relating to Horsby Tracks the drawings include information on previous British patents including the illusive BP16345 of 1904 in the HORNSBY_TRACTION_ENGINE_TRACK.pdf overall this patent seems to show the progression of Roberts and James track system as it goes through various modifications up to presumably 1908 when the patent was filed, the other two deal with steering and details of a modified track link, there appears to be another patent no 421175 which deals with the original track link also mentioned.....

Akroyd engines tomorrow(relevant to 1905 conversion of 1896 tractor)

Patents for the first Herbert Akroyd Stuart Engines...... these engines are compression ignition engines, today you'd call them Diesels.......
This type of engine was built by Hornsbys the only company at the time willing to take on such new technology eventually replacing their steam engine production, an engine of this type powers Hornsby first Caterpillar Tractor a modified 1896 Hornsby Akroyd Traction Engine ....

British Patent 1904 Hornsby Akroyd Caterpillar tractor...

for clarity the image shows the built tractor.

note: this is powered by an Akroyd hot bulb engine built and developed under license by hornsby, essentially the  tracks are modifications too an existing design of Hornsby Akroyd wheeled tractor I believe two such tractors stll exist today....
