USAAC Olive Drab?

I ran across a few photos of the Barling bomber where it looks almost a khaki color, with black "US Army" lettering, rather than the almost black olive drab with white lettering I've usually seen. They are at the airwar.ru page-
Barling Page
Second and third pictures from the bottom. Would this be some lighter variant of olive drab, or just a trick of the film used? The black lettering seems to be in high contrast with the fuselage color, and I'm not sure if just orthochromatic film from the 1920's would account for that. How variable was the early OD? I've seen models of Martin MB-2s ranging from green to brown, and I'm wondering where this Barling paint job fits in.
Thanks!

Partially answering my own question, I found some WWI color chips at:

British PC10 begat US Olive Drab, but the controversy continues on what the actual color was.  The link has colors from all sides of the Great War.
