I recommend taking a look at the walkaround pictures of "Firefly" on Landships2:

It shows the rail that the spuds hung on, but not the spuds. The rail does not protrude very much.

Not sure which resin model you've looked at but have you tried Accurate Armours web site. Just had another look at the review of Emhar's 1/72 Whippet, here:

If you look at Peter's in-progress pic it shows that he fitted the�spuds rail to his model. It is number 6 in his list of modifications, but he hasn't put a number 6 on the photo.
