Hi all

I start a new thread for heavy gun identification. It is the continuation of a previous thread about the same theme:
See : http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=63528&p=3&topicID=35010024

Can anybody identify these two Russian coastal guns?

Thanks in advance. Sturm78

I'm not sure the first one is Russian - looks like a German 17cm SK in Schirmlafette. The
sliding wedge breech is typically Krupp.

Regards,

Charlie

Hi all,

I found this image on Ebay. I think Russian 10inch coastal gun (254mm L/45)but I am not sure.

Can somebody confirm this?

Hello,

Yes, it is a russian 10 inch (254 mm) model 1892 coast gun but his barrel was scuttled, I think it is one of the Kowno guns. Many coastal guns were brought by russians in several Fortress to improve defences in 1914-1915.
Some 10 inch L/45 were captured intact, mostly in 1915 and 1917 and were used by germans as coastal guns, two near Varna in Bulgaria and two more in a german battery in Borkum island. The german called these guns "Grossfürst" and with german shells their range was 23.575 meters. The Borkum guns had very long use, in 1917, they armed "Batterie 711", transfered to Navy in 1918 and conserved with authorysation of the allied (CNIAC Commission). In 1930 years, the two guns of Borkum (Battery named "Oldenburg") were tubed to 24-cm caliber. In 1940, these two guns were transferred near Calais, the "Oldenburg" battery finished his duty in 1944!The two ex-russian guns of Oldenburg Battery had the factory numbers 56 and 74.
Yours sincerely,
Guy François.

What do you think?
