I have a handcoloured one in my collection. It shows a tanker wearing a beret. The colour of the uniform seems to be black. As the colour of the beret seems to be lighter, so it may be dark blue.

Beware: I do not know which period the picture exactly shows! There is neither a writing on the back nor any date printed.

See picture attached.

Bonsoir,

The beret was black, like now 501° RCC from Mourmelon.

The postcard is from the twenties and uniform was already "bleu horizon".

The colors of these postcard are not good.

Michel

Yes, having looked at me stuff I concur (although if you've found the info already I don't really need to write anything): horizon blue uniform, leather coat, Adrian helmet with knight's helm on crossed cannon as a badge (Sept '17+), and beret smaller than the Alpine Chasseurs'.

Vive la France!

Bonsoir,

About Helmet, if the Adrian Helmet from soldiers and NCO was with the artillery insignia, it was not true for all the officers coming from infantry or cavalry and some of them used thier infantery, chasseur or cavalry helmet.

The beret was not a military equipment, and the men (not all) using it, bought this beret in civilian store on their money . . . .

Soldiers, NCO and Officers, coming from "Chasseurs à pied" or Chasseur Alpin's units used very often their military chasseur's beret.

The military berets are just coming in the last weeks of the war.

Bonjour Michel, I look forward to hearing from you and hope you have some information on how this French Schneider CA1 tank came to Canada before the end of the First World War. Harold sends hskaarup@rogers.com
