That's the steam tank, designed to be a flamethrower;

There is also a picture of a Schneider with a very interesting camouflage pattern (check out this large version)

Bonsoir,

Yes, It is the real camouflage of this Schneider M2 !

This tank was those given (with a Saint Chamond) by the French Army in 1919 (with also 4 Renault FT).
It was a gift of six French tanks, employed in combat with the American Army in the Argonne.

In 1985, United States gave it back to France, and this Schneider is now in Saumur tank's museum,
with a camouflage very far from truth !

After Boston, the tank was in Aberdeen Proving Ground Center and, like all the equipement stayed outside, painted in grey !

The photo is also interesting for markings ! The triangle is those belonging to Schneider tanks from the Groupe AS 16.
The ace is erased and it's not possible to give the tank Battery.

Tank numbers from this group are known and its probably one of these mumbers :
  61262 - 61263 - 21266 - 61267 - 61269 - 61270 - 61275 - 61281 - 61317 - 61321 - 61327 - 61365 - 61367 - 61375 - 61376.

They are probably other photos of this tank, stayed some months or some years in this park !
They will be interesting for the other sides and, perhaps, details like tank number, probably paint on the rear tank and
just behind vertical front rail.

Happy new year and "Bonne recherche" in Boston . . . Michel

I'm not sure if it's camo.
Obviously, there's the shadow of a tree, I assume it's the cross-hatching you're talking about?
Odd, I can't see how this would camoflage it in any shape or form.

The photos are from The Boston Public Library's pages on flickr. Looks like an interesting set to look through:

They state their preferred credit is "Courtesy of the Boston Public Library, Leslie Jones Collection."

One of the photos shows a line-up of 6-ton tanks (US version of FT).  One of them has a TSF superstructure; I had not seen pix of this version before.  Also, interesting tactical markings.  I suspect this is post-WW1.
