FT17 Grouser or track spud

Bonjour Nicolas,

Very interesting

Have you also photos of this piece put on a Renault FT track and what are those dimensions ?

There is no french military document from SHD Vincennes, speaking of this kind of upgrading on Renault FT tracks.

It is probably an US Tank Corps trial, probably not used in combat.

How many pieces have you find in Langres ?

Très bonne année - Michel

But . . . . it is the same one ? ? :  Bits of Tanks(Preview)

Bonjour Michel,

We have find three pieces near Langres. At the begining we don't know the use of this part.

But the president of our association knew someone who have find the same parts, mounted on a FT17 track, on the battlefield in the Ardennes . We have obtain this mounted grouser.

We are thinking about a US sample adaptation, but this Grouser has been sent to the front.

I 'll forward some picture on this week-end.

Best regards,

No, it's not at all the same. You don't have the big "laterally shape" I'll sent you pictures as soon as possible.

Hello all,

I'm recently using your great forum it's a real mine of information !

We are a french association, and since four years we are working on the birth of US Tank Corps in France. We are based closed to Langres, who Patton established the first tank school in 1917.

We have found on the battlefield, some FT17 tracks with Grouser mounted on it.

And, we have find close to Tank School some of this Grouser.

These grouser (or track spud) are amovible and are mounted on the track ofthe FT17 with some big screw.

I know that this kind of equipment existing for MKIV tank (See photo enclosed), but I don't find information for FT17.

Do you know something about this grouser for FT17 ?

Thanks a lot for your feed back.

Nicolas.

Here is some pictures of grouser.

One the first picture, you'll see two FT17 Track, one found without grouser, one with the grouser mounted on.

The track with the grouser was found in the ardenne.

The other picture shows two grousers found with the U-Shape attachement.

The last pictures is a details of the FT17 - Track marking.

We want to know if someone have some info about this FT17 grouser. We don't find any documents relating to this equipment !!

Interesting, isnt'it ?

Regards, Nicolas.

Edit : The three grouser have the same dimensions and are exactly the same.
