Howdy Roger,

Thanks for taking the time to write up such enjoyable reading about a personality who I have been curious about, but have not had the opportunity to follow up on....you did a great job of putting a lot of information in a very handy 'nutshell'

I especially liked the schematics.

Maybe if he'd just simply been easier to work with, who knows how his designs would have played out......

Tread.

You never know, I think that in some ways what he and Nesfield came up with had potential, it's just a shame Macfie was such a pain!

I found some photos of his aircraft as well, and also found out that his daughter died as recently as 2002! Haven't been able to track down any other reasonably close relatives, however.

With luck, someone might use my drawings to make a model (if you wait for me to do it, you'll be waiting a looong time!).

Howdy Roger,

Funny you should say that, I have in fact looked over your drawing dubbed Fig.4 {the bottom one I believe} with that very thing in mind....aside from the fact that my modeling desk is full at the moment, I must admit to having some problems properly deschyphering {sp?} the drawing. In my mind, some of the lines depicted in the drawing don't add up....probably just me.

Tread.

Ah, that's from Macfie's patent, so blame him!

Fig 2 (the Revised Design, AKA Experimental Caterpillar Landship) I drew using Macfie's original designs in the Stern archive - the cutaways are based directly on his drawing, the profile showing the machine plated is my interpretation. That is the one he tried to get built.
