That's pretty well known - the Mark IV was No. 4066 and the A7V was #561 "Nixe".

There is a website run in parallel to the forum - Landships II which has a memoir by 2nd Lt Mitchell - commander of No. 4066.

Hello everyone!

It's been absolutely fantastic to stumble upon this page!  For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by the Great War.   Being a modern day Armoured soldier, naturally I am fascinated by the historical roots of the tank.  Lately I've been reading a lot into the tank v tank at Villers Bretonneux.  Ultimately, I plan on eventually building a diorama reflecting this first armour engagement.  But that will be an on going project.  After reading posts I see there is an abundance of knowledge, but can anyone tell me the names of the tanks that squared off against each other on that April morning?  I've been looking around and have yet to find a solid answer.

Anyway, I'm extremely glad to be part of this forum!  And look forward to learning and expanding my knowledge of this little known chapter in Armoured warfare.

Cheers!

Damn, used the link to my local copy of Landships II again (sounds of self-beating)

Fixed now.
