Limbered wagons
Permalink

I am restoring a  pair of WW1 limbered wagons, dated 1915 and 1916, and I am trying to obtain detailed plans, photos and information.

I have a complete Australian pattern fore and hind wagon with straight axles and parts of a British pattern with the bent axle. About 25 years ago I was able to photograph a restored Aust. pattern at the Australian War Memorial.

I was hoping that someone could assist with background information on the limbered wagons, such as:

1.     History, patterns, variations, particularly the Field Artillery version

2.    The type of timber used in the boxes - I believe it was "deal" which was a Scottish pine or Baltic pine? The ones I have contain different types of timber which have timber experts stumped.

3.    The correct paint colour for the Western Front and also Egypt/Palestine

4.    AIF unit markings (besides the 2nd Division rising sun)

5.    Harness

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Bob
