Hi,

Discussing stencils of railways, I read about the firm of Thevenon & Cie. who produced sets of letters and numerals for industrial purposes, and by the period pictures, could be also seen in most of the French Army properties.

Check the article here (in Spanish) to see the application:https://www.behance.net/gallery/Tipografia-Historica-Ferroviaria-FC-Plantillas/13992787

And here's a link for a free download of the font for your computer, in case you need to mark your own Renault FT tank: http://www.fontpalace.com/font-download/Charrette/

What a great post! This explains many of the markings I have seen in photos of U.S. soft skin vehicles. Thank you so much!

You're welcome. Now I'm trying to determine the sizes for each application. It seems like the stencils had a limited number of sizes available from the manufacturers, and given that the French army had to distribute so many sets of stencils, chances are that the letter sizes would have been in a limited range.

Appreciate the French font!  Can anyone suggest British, German, and American fonts?
