Dear all,

I would like to ask you if anyone is planning to join the Tankfest this year? We are planning a trip to the UK and maybe visiting the Tankfest. Due to the cultural gap I hope I don't ask with importunity to meet some of you.

Kind Regards

Chris

Well .... again: how joins the tankfest 2015?

My wife and me we are going to join on both days (tickets already bought). It would be nice to meet some of you. We don't have to hang around together the whole day, but maybe meet for lunch or a coffee (I guess they won't have Bavarian beer?)?

Feel free to contact me.

Kind Regards
Chris

Hi Chris,

I will be there on the Sunday. I'm with friends so can't guarantee my movements that day... they will probably be trying their best to keep me away from the WW1 Hall and the Armotek stand. :)

If things had gone differently in 1914, they might have had Bavarian beer.

But not necessarily any tanks, ergo Tank Museum, ergo Tankfest ...

How temporally paradoxical.

I'll be there as usual dressed as a member of the Tank Corps, with the 'War Horse' replica Mk IV 'Big Brute' - come and say hello! I can't wait. May be temporarily away from the display to admire the Whippet though

Not at all, just as i'm taking part in a display there I head down Friday night to get my car offloaded, everything set up so in the morning all ready to go. Here's a couple of photos of our display from last year, I believe we'll be in the same place as last year, right by the entrance. If you get there early enough you may catch me or one of the other Tank crew chaps having a shave, using the rear fuel tank as a handy flat area for shaving and other washing purposes!

Have also just found out that as well as doing British WW1 Tank crew with the Mk IV Male, our group will also be doing German WW1 Tank crew with the A7V! It's the second year we've done German as well as British, and probably only the second time since the war people have portrayed WW1 German tank crew?

All packed and awaiting the end of my workday so I can get started on what will be a horrendous drive down the A31 to Bovington. See you there!

Back home after an exhausting two-and-a-bit days at Bovington. Excellent as always to display with the Mk IV 'Male' replica and have the A7V replica alongside to compare with. Also great to meet the lovely Helen of Mk I Tank fame, Chris G and Kristof (Elbavaro) and his wife. I'll try and get some photos up when I can, I missed the Rolls Royce armoured car in the arena but managed a couple of quick look arounds in the museum

Good to hear they finally let you down off of that Sponson roof! :)

I've not been for a few years and I must say it just keeps getting better, a fantastic Museum and Show. Going to make sure I make it back there next year.

Maybe next time we will set a Landship meet up for a set time at the MKIV replica. It's a busy, busy show and so easy to loose track of time. I met up with Chris while I was waiting to see the Armtek MKIV model move, but would have loved to have met few more.

Cheers! Here are some of mine from the weekend, uniform currently on the washing line after a thorough scrub in Wright's Coal Tar soap after acquiring a rather unpleasant smell presumably based on the dust and sweat of the past two days and for however many more i've been wearing it since I last cleaned it!Wright's Coal Tar soap were, of course, amongst the many firms to use Tanks as part of an advert not long after their introduction

Although not working, it was good to see the A7V and Mk IV replicas outside

As an antidote to the awful 1940's stuff being piped through the tannoy, our Officer provided some fantastic 1910's music instead!

This little chap is a replica of a 1915 lucky black cat mascot made by the Farnell company, given by wives, girlfriends, family members etc to those serving in the armed forces. Decided to name him Percy after Harry Drader's pet black cat who went in action with him from the first Tank attack in September 1916 in C20 'Daphne' and continued to go into action with his owner until the end of the war, both survived and went back to England together!

Personally what I look forward to most at Tankfest or any other reason i'm down at Bovington is to see the Lieutenant Sewell VC Whippet
