Tanks of the Dover Patrol

Something I'd heard of but never really read up on was the Dover Patrol until I stumbled on this site:

Had these adapted tanks in it:

Were these extra track grips (spuds?) made of wood because they look like they are wooden and there are at least two different tanks in the shots.

What else is known about these vehicles?
