This is the transportation version of the A7V. It was called "Marienwagen" g"Ueberlandwagen" (cross-country vehicle) and was used as a supply means over bad terrain.  The Gun in front of the Marienwagen was a makeshift anti-tank device and normally was used from belgium naval depots, cal 5.7 cm, so the Marienwagen could make good use of the stored ammo for the tanks.

The Marienwagen is basically the same chassis as the A7V without armour except for the engine.

Road speed about 18 km/h, in deep terrain only about 8 km/h and thus double the speed of a MK IV or V or V* or V**.

2 x 75 hp Daimler engine, fuel capacity 500 litres, range on road 80 kms, over bad terrain only about half of it. (!)

It is definetly not a Marienwagen.

Although the chassis/power plant look like straightforward gelandewagen/uberlandwagen (Hundelby & Strasheim pp 28, 34, & 35) the driving position's roof is somewhat different and the body seems to be much longer. To balance the weight distribution problem - ammo at one end and the gun at the other (with the problems of feeding the gun)???

Also, it would be a pak, not a flak, if such terminology would have been used then.

Very interesting picture - thanks for posting it.

Tony
