The image looks like it came out of SPA (French Army archive). There's lots of detail in the Elfriede image which is easily missed.

There is a rectangular piece cut out of the front of Elfriede which was used for analysis of the armour - there's recent thread on this topic.

There's also a piece of the 16mm plate from the side cut out but that isn't easy to see in this image.

The front of the tank shows the results of the firing tests using 8mm Lebel and 37mm rounds at the Bourron firing range. The white painted

rectangles were the target areas.

There's a long post by "Tanker" on the pages14-18.mesdiscussions forum on Elfriede - it's recovery, testing, display and final disposal. It's in French but

the machine translation is pretty good - http://pages14-18.mesdiscussions.net/pages1418/Pages-d-Histoire-Artillerie/Artillerie-Speciale-chars-d-assaut/elfriede-recupere-bretonneux-sujet_463_1.htm.

Regards,

Charlie
