Meng and Takom Whippet Kits

I happened to look at eBay by chance and found 1/35 Whippet kits from both manufacturers.  So who has done either one?

Hello Tom,

I have build them both. I was more pleased with the Meng one. It builds great and it is cheaper. smile

But here you can read two reviews to make your own decision:

http://www.themodellingnews.com/2015/12/build-review-pt-ii-andys-mengs-135th.html

Best regards,

Willem

I like the Takom!
Easy to built with wood boxes on the sides and a lot of interesting markings.

Personally, I feel the Meng kit wins hands down. Much nicer styrene to work with, smaller sprue gates and better detail. TheTakom Hotchkiss MGs seem more like 1/32 scale and are very toy-like in their appearance. The Meng superstructure goes together much easier as do the roadwheels. Takom does better with the tracks as the Meng kit has the 2 piece links. You also get better marking options - Meng providing decals but no details for some vehicles. I did try building both side by side but found the Takom kit to be so bad I gave up on it. I decided to use the Takom tracks and drive sprockets on the Meng kit. I've finished the build and am awaiting a figure to go with it. Will post some pics soon. Gary
