A pity more wasn't written about "tank on trains" as he has only covered movement from the factory to the depot and not movement overseas and in-theatre. Given the limited range of the tanks, railways were extremely important for movement in-theatre. It also enabled operational security, as they weren't slowly massed in any part of the front, but rather shipped by train when needed, contributing to operational surprise.
I believe the RECtank wagons were only used in the UK for the factory to depot and Bovington traffic. Modified Macaws, the first generation of Warflats with the telegraph code "Parrot" and French bogie flat wagons were then used for traffic in France. Later the first generation of Warwells were also used.
