FT TSF Tank In British Service
Permalink

Gents,

A few months ago I saw an image, I believe from the IWM, of a FT TSF (Char signal), on a British Parrot tank wagon with a MkV tank on the next wagon, the description was that the FT was used by the Tank Corps for command and communications. Does anyone know of the image and can post me the link?

Cheers,

Chris

Well I haven't found the image of the TSF, but found these of FT's on Parrot wagons (Warflats) at the Tank Corps Central Workshop in the spring of 1918.

Bonjour,

During WW1, as the American Army, the British Army never received Renault FT TSF from French Government.

6 days before the end of the war, 39 Renault FT TSF was delivered in French Units, 4 was in training center from Cercottes

and 5 always in Factory. The first command, for the French Army, was from 72 Renauft FT TSF.

During the war, the British Army received 13 Renault :

               - Training tank n° 66016 (now n Bovington)

               - 2 Renault FT, sent at Erin (for 2 weeks)

               - 10 Renault FT, sent in to the British Tank Corps in Erin (without mask and arms).

In agreement with the French Government, these 10 Renault FT was sent to Estonia in June 1919

(SHD Vincennes - Box n° 16N2130)

About Renault FT from Bovington, I don't understand why chassis number 13, is painted on left side.

The chassis number from FT n° 66016, written on Renault FT constructor plate is well 12 - 17,

(for chassis number 12 built in 1917). The good chassis number is well number 12, unless if this plate

was not the original constructor plate of this tank . . . .

Bon week-end - Michel

Michel,

Thank you, I found the image at the IWM a few days ago. I incorrectly stated the FT was a TSF. The image was of two FT on a railway wagon at Erin with Mark V tanks on the other wagons.
