New QM Book on Mephisto for Centenary.

Just been notified of this by Queensland Museum shop:

On the 20th of July a brand new comprehensive Mephisto book will be released. It’s about 320 pages of information and an A4 size. It will sell for about $50 Australian. This is being released to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the tank's capture.

No idea. Perhaps qmshop@qm.qld.gov.au may be able to help

The book is called:

"A7V 506 Mephisto: War, Technology and Remembrance" by Greg Czechura and Jeff Hopkins-Weise

Softcover is $A45 - bit cheaper.

I saw copies of the Mephisto book at yesterday's AMMS meeting. After a quick skim through the book it seems to have a lot

on the context of WW1 on the Western Front and about 3/4 chapters on the A7Vs, Mephisto's service, loss and recovery and it's history

since arriving in Brisbane.

Regards,

Charlie

In your opinion..

Is it worth the price

I also have to pay a lot on shipping ....

I've only had a few minutes to flick through the book - I couldn't possibly form an informed judgement on it.

I do intend to buy a copy, probably this week - the museum is a 15 minute train journey away for me. I'll write up a more considered

opinion and post it - fair enough?

Regards,

Charlie

Aha. I, too, have received a notification. I observe in the blurb that "a small group of (i.e. 15) soldiers — Queenslanders and Tasmanians of the 26th Battalion — retrieved the tank from within sight of the German lines."

I wonder if any mention is made of the (26) men of the 1st Gun Carrier Company and, indeed, their Gun Carriers, who took part in the operation?
