Colour match query - tank tracks & German artillery piece
Permalink

Hello,

I'm modelling (first time effort!) a small 1917 diorama.  I've almost fininshed the tank and I used the colour suggested on the forum, which looks really good to my eyes.  Now I'm doing three German 76mm field guns (Emhar 1:35). Does anybody know a good colour match for a 1917 German 76mm field gun?  Would the gun be painted the same all over, or would the wheels be different?

Also, does anybody have a suggestion as to what colour I should do the tracks of the tank? I would have thought that in battle they would have been a combination of rust and mud - how do I achieve something like that?

Cheers,

Ian.

for the gun, you should try the feldgrau (fieldgrey) done by andrea miniatures, the acrylic paint company from spain, the paint is very close to that color. the wheels have a rim that should be of a worn color, since they are moved on the ground

for tracks you need to to use, burnt steel, some rust, maybe some gunmetal on bolts, and some earth colors for mud, you might even want to try to make some mud to add to the tracks

hope this helps, also the emhar kit for the artillery piece is very plain, you might want to do some detailing, check the page on the gun on landships and/or my article on the kit itself in reviews

A good way to depict mud/earth is to get tins of Humbrol of the appropriate colours and pour off the liquid before stirring.  The gunk at the bottom of the tin can then be trowelled on to form mud.
This method makes a very realistic mud, but refer to photos to get the right amounts in the right place.
