I am looking for pictures of the German FK96a/a version that does not have the recoil system. I am told this is the gun used by the Germans during the Boxer rebellion.
There is a small picture of it in the artillery section of landships, but I need one with more detail.
There's a nice line drawing of the original FK96 on page 68 of Hans Linnenkohl, Vom Einzelschuß zur Feuerwaltze, Der Wettlauf zwischen Technik und Taktik im Ersten Weltkrieg, (Koblenz: Bernard & Graefe, 1990).
For photos, I would check out the various postcard dealers that have web-sites on line, as well as the post-cards for sale on E-Bay.
Surviving examples of the old FK96 are particularly hard to find, because most of them were converted into FK96 n/A in 1905 or so. For some reason, however, some of the old model FK96 guns sent out to the German colonies in Africa escaped transformation. Because of this, a number of these guns ended up in memorials and museums in South Africa, including the War Memorial in Pietermaritzburg, the Law Courts in Johannesburg and a public square in Pietersburg.
