Have we got Egbert's number?

Looking at the back of Egbert in this photo taken at Preston in the last week of Jan 1918 there appears to be a number partialy painted out on the petrol tank. I wondered if it might give a clue to the tank's original operational identity. Anyone any better than I at decyphering this? I thought the last digit was 8 but on blowing it up I'm not so sure.

Hi a difficult one ........possibly 28 but could be 9 as the last digit....
