Egbert's markings
Permalink

Gwyn recently made a comment vis a vis the new Osprey Mk IV book and Egberts name appearing (or not appearing) on the front plate. I've just been looking at a copy of a post card of Egbert at Halifax in March 1918. A nice clear photo (more on this later). The tank has the name Egbert but no number on the port horn. However looking at my files I found that I had the same photo but without an identified location or date and of poorer quality. On this photo there is no name on the port horn. Looking much closer at the post card it becomes apparent that the post card publisher has added the name to the photo, one wonders why. However the thought occurs that this sort of thing may have happened to other photos and this might have included one with the name on the front plate? Worth checking.
Looking at all the Egberts I find Egberts with no number or name, an Egbert with a name, very faded, on the starboard horn but no number and an Egbert with the name less faded and the number painted over it on the starboard horn.
