After reading a misinformed comment on a website recently, I thought it might be amusing to offer some examples of people not knowing what they're talking about but being prepared to speak authoritatively. These are all genuine, honest.

On an American website, discussing picture of the battlefield at Passchendaele:

What is also amazing are the huge areas of soil where nothing grows..no vegetation...not even weeds.

That was probably due to the early variants of Agent Orange.

Two conversations overheard at the IWM, London.

A couple looking at the Mk V

Her: "That's a funny looking Tank. What kind is that?"

Him: "It's an amphibious one."

Mother and child looking at the WW1 exhibit of a carrier pigeon wrapped in a little strait-jacket with parachute attached, for dropping to troops in forward positions.

Child: "What's that for, mummy?"

Mother: "It's so the pigeon could fly without showing up on the radar."
