Emhar MkIV best fit techniques?

A while ago someone posted some helpful looking photos of how to get a good fit on an Emhar MkIV hull parts, but I can't find where they are...

Does anyone have a link to the page they can post?

I've just received my MkIV Male [1st ever Great War kit for me!] and I'd like to get the main assembly 'just so' before I begin the task of Supply Tank conversion... biggrin

Hi Paul!
I don't know exactly what do you mean regarding the hull fitting, but If you can explain a beat more I could maybe help you. I've built a dozen of the 1/35 Ehmar's MarkIV and converted the whole family from this poor base.

Gilles,

The photos showed modifications that needed to be made for the hull parts to fit properly.

I can see, just from looking at my kit, that the front of the outer track horn pieces wont fit square against the hull because the hull edge interrupts the thick inner part of the track horn.

I would be really interested to see shots of your finished tanks, I'm sure your experience and the versions you chose to build would be an inspiration.

Myself, I'm planning to convert a MkIV into a MkI supply tank as used in Palestine.

The Mark I tanks used in Palestine were not converted into supply tanks. They were heavily laden with stores and expected to supply troops, but they were not converted as some of the Mark I tanks were on the western front. At least, none of the photos show such a conversion.

They (the Palestine tanks) were changed from an ordinary looking (Western front) Mark I, though.

Oops, could be a classic schoolboy error there..!

You can tell I'm new to WWI armour can't you? The assumption that a tank painted khaki or light earth colour would be from desert base action [as per WWII]

Of course I was forgetting the oft disputed green Vs khaki basic WWI tank colour issue - thinking about it, khaki probably represented a rather good choice on the muddy Western Front!

So Supply Tank 712 'Dodo' served somewhere in Europe then.. confused

Regarding the MarkIv Hull, the Ehmar's parts fit rather good. I never had to correct anything at this stage. The point is you have to clean the contacts very carrefully. First assemble the 3 parts of the hill itself, then the 2 lover sides (parts 12 and 37) and eventually the sides. The only problem on the parts 1,2,3,4 is to gently remove the ejectors pins.
It is more difficult to correct the shortcomings of the kit itself, especially the two apertures inside the rear horns forgotted by Ehmar...

Do you speak about MarkI or MarkIV?
Some time ago I wrote an article about my way to upgrade a MarkIV published in "Model" n°17. I guess it should be possible to find it allready.
If you have specific question I can help with some pics.

Hi Gilles,

I spoke about the Mark IV. It is a tank that I want to model and when I see your picture, I think that there is some place for improvement. I don't know the magazine you spoke about but the issue 17 looks interesting.
If you have some more pictures, I am also interested, mainly by the places where some modification are needed.

 You're right Paul!
On my issue there is "n°17" on the cover but it is eventally the 18!

To Answer Eric, I can make a summary of the problematic points, bu it will only my way to a markIV smile the list isn't closed! More tomorrow!

Speaking of that, do they have some other issues with WW1 article ?
I saw that the n°3 has a FT17. Anything else ?

Model n°3 was a special issue dedicated to the french armor 1940. The FT is marked in 1940 markings. As far I remember, there was no other WW1 armor in Model, and regarding the french publications, there are few... A russian Putilov Garford in Military Armor, A Whippet, a 155GCT, a MarkIV Tadpole in Steelmaster plus some 1/72 subject... I maybe forgot one or two subject.
It could be a good idea to built an index of those subjects in the different magazine around the world.

Do we speak about this subject before in the french maquette garden?

Just begining to get stuck into my MkIV...

Coo, it's a bit 'wafferty' isn't it?! I've opted for internal bracing with plastruct angle in an attempt to keep everything relatively square and solid, given the quite vague locators on the 'flat pack' hull pieces...

As you know, I intend to convert this kit into MkI Supply Tank No '712' Dodo.

I've already built a new, wider driver/comander's cab and am in the process of fitting it out with hatches - just the roof hatch to go, once I'm 100% sure of the photos I'm using...

Next stop will be a pair of scratch built, plated up, Male sponsons, about which I am feeling more confident after the minor triumph of a successful cab build.

Riveting though, I shall save for later... I want to get the main work done first and be sure it'll go the distance! biggrin
