Good evening, I have begun working on my WWI diorama that I have been putting off for years now, and I have started working on my little men...the Doughboys first! I read on the internet several different takes on painting them, and I am at a loss. I primered the first set of them, but in that, I also compromise the details of the little guys. Can I paint them with Testors/Humbrol without running the risk of the plastic not holding the paint, or is it better to primer them first and then paint them? Thanks!
Wash them in soapy water, and give them a very good rinse, first (I've started doing mine in a net in the dishwasher!)
I use auto primer - the basic grey stuff. It is cheap, and it is flexible, and it sticks to anything (resin, plastic, paper, metal)
Humbrol paint seems to work very well on plastic figures.
If you wash them well, you probably won't need primer if you are using Humbrol paints (I haven't used Testors paints). But if you use auto primer you wont lose much detail (I've never noticed any loss at all).
I think that, we read a lot of seemingly contradictory advice, because everybody has their own unique style/preference/technique.
