Hi Artillery Buffs,
I have read many soldiers WW1 memoirs over the years and have often pondered over which German gun they referred to when they mentioned the
'whizz-bangs'.I finally reached the conclusion that it was the 7.7cm.,(as attd.drg).would you clued up guys agree?.

A whizz bang was a shell fired from any high velocity flat(ish) trajectory piece of artillery. The term refers to the shell and its arrival rather than any specific gun. If the shell was also a gas shell it might also be referred to as a pip squeek. so the German 77 would fire a whizz bang but there were other guns that would fire them as well.

Thanks Centurion for the prompt response and concise explanation of a little question that usually surfaces every time I read a ww1 memoir.
Regards,
Ken
