Hi All!

Has anyone ever heard of a German Tank Commander (could be also a unit commander or just a simple officer in a German tank unit right before the war ended) named:

Leutnant (Lieutenant) Finkbeiner

Also it could be: Tückbeiner, Fückbeiner, Sinkbeiner, Finkheimer or similar.

Maybe he was later in Freikorps service with tanks / armoured cars?

Does anyone have information?

He was the commanding officer of the Württemberg tank detachment that never went beyond basic training at Schönefeld and Zehrensdorf before the war ended.
If I remember correctly, his name was Finckbeiner.

Hi mad zeppelin!

Thanks a lot for the information. I bought a Militärpass (Military document) of a tank driver and Finckbeiner was the commander who did sign the last items in that document. The stamp was - like many others in the early after-war-time - just a simple "WUERTT. STURMPANZERWAGEN ABTL." So I was not quite sure about the orginality and I just bought it by a good feeling.

May I ask you what your source is? Are there further informations available about him and the Württemberg tank detachment?

It's in the Württemberg state archive at Stuttgart, they have two or three documents about the unit. Basically Finckbeiner's report after the unit had returned from Berlin and was being dissolved. It has the names of the other officers but not of rank and file. The stamp "Württembergische Sturmpanzerwagen Abteilung" is also there.

I have seen 2 stamps.

One during the war - like usual Württemberg Regiment stamps (with crown).
The other stamp was after the war - only a simple two-lined word stamp
