Rash of Great War Documentaries on BBC

. . . as might be expected. Perhaps tranche would be a better word

A bit late in the day, I'm afraid, because I didn't see any trailers, but this doco fronted by Michael Palin went out Saturday 1st November, and will, no doubt, be repeated. About the men killed between 5am and 11am on 11/11/1918.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/timewatch/last-day-of-ww1.shtml

If you google Palin & WW1 you'll find related stuff. The historical consultant was Paul Reed. They managed to include some brief footage of a Mk VIII in action. Yes, a Mk VIII.

Also, on Mon-Weds this week on BBC1 at 10.35pm or thereabouts there's a short series of people talking about their ancestors' part in the War. Unfortunately, this being 2008, all the people talking have to be "celebrities", beginning with the dreadful Dan Snow (surprise), followed by retired cricketer Phil Tuffnell, a middle-ranking BBC newsreader, and who knows who else? Why it has to have the sleb angle I really don't know, but that's the way it is. Presumably it's more interesting that way.

There was a brief clip of the Mk5 running at Bovington on BBC Breakfast today, so it still looks like its able to move under its own power.

Bovington are updating their web site so it has a new look.
http://www.tankmuseum.org/home

on the 8th Nov there is free admission and ww1 events acording to the web site.

Sadly, I've just read an article that says that for the Lord Mayor's Parade the Mk V made it out of the hall and onto the low-loader, but a spokesman for the Museum said it would be the last time it would move under its own power.
