Wonderful! I LOVE your small vids. It makes such a difference to see these things actually MOVE. You have seen them, flickering by for a second or two in some documentary, but these vids give you a whole new chance to study them. clap.gif

Excellent! Keep it up. I simply MUST do something with these. Will try and embed on the info pages, or at least publish the links! biggrin

Just a quick observation to note the clip captures both early and late vehicles, and their respective 75mm gun differences.

It is surprising to see just how many different versions of the St Chamond there were. In addition to the two different 75mm guns that were used, I have seen one with a 120mm gun fitted. And some with no gun at all. The roof details changed, and the thickness of the armour as well.

Bonjour,

Seven parts in this youtube's video :

- 1° - Photo from a St Chamond model 1 in test on the factory's training center. (At St Chamond's factory).

- 2° - Video of a St Chamond model 2 in test on the factory's training center (At St Chamond's factory).

- 3° - Always the same Saint Chamond . . . of the first part.

- 4° - Vidéo from Groupe AS 31 in Missy sur Aisne on May 3th, 1917. It was befor 5 May attack on Laffaux.

In front of the first St Chamond : Captain Calmels (AS 31 Group's commander). The first St Chamond M1 is the number 62477 AsP1.

The men (with beret) driving the tank (left cupola) is Lt Bégarie (Chief commander of the first battery). The nickname ot this tank is "Teddy"

A bear is painted in white on front right side. Teddy was yhe bear of his son.

The second St Chamond M1 is the number 62456 AsP3. (3° tank of the 1° Battery). Maréchal des Logis Sauvestre (chief and tank's pilot) is in the left cupola with beret on head.

This tanks were arrived in Soissons-St Wast railway station on 30 April's night, gathered near Crouy (May 1th and 2th) and moved through Missy sur Aisne and Condé sur Aisne to their fighting's positions. This Groupe, with Schneider's Groups AS 1 and AS 10 fought on Laffaux sector on May 5th.

- 5° - Video in Champlieu (July 14th, 1917). It's the parad for national's fest. On first position a recovery St Chamond called "Saint Chamond caisson". This Saint Chamond belongs to the Schnieder's Group just behind.

You can see (in white and blue) the SSR 1 (or AS 101) flag. SRR - "Section de Ravitaillement et Réparation".

- 6° - A new video from Groupe AS 31. It was in Condé sur Aisne (always on May 3th, 1917) . The Groupe was turning in front of Condé's church to go to the "Fort de Condé" (North of Condé sur Aisne on top of the hill). The Captain Calmels is now on the Saint Chamond. Its' always Teddy with Lt Bégarie.

You can also see a dog on the tank. Very often, tank's team used dogs to detect motor's gas inside the tank.

If you go to Condé sur Aisne you can do the same photo . . . . . without St Chamond of course !

This tank's Group attack on May 5th, East of Laffaux, between Nanteuil la fosse and Sancy. The front Line was North of these villages.

- 7° - Always the same Saint Chamond . . . of the second part.

You can found these video in France at Ecpa-D (Fort d'Ivry) and command it by internet. It's an other quality than this bad copy on youtub. . . . . .

A last thing . . . . The "char léger FT 18" don't exist ! Please read François Vauviller topics and stop to speak of this "spirit tank" . . . . . .

Bonne fin d'après-midi - Michel

About other french tank's video on You tube :

For the A7V film on you tube, the only moving part is about Elfreide. . . .

This German A7V tank was repared on the Canadian first line by SRR 101 of French Artillerie Spéciale. This film was done during a meeting for Albert Thomas (Ministre de l'Armement). It's just a little part of the film and you can also found this film inside Ecpa-D video DVD-rom. . . . .

Of course, you can also found the military photos of the same meeting in Fort d'Ivry's documents . . . .

The films on FT 17 and Schneider are also done with filmw from ECPA-D. The film on Schneider (with music) and write Skoblin in the right corner, is a copy from the ECPA-D film . . .

In all this mixed sequences, you can also found some part of films done by American Army Signal Corps during training with AS 5 Schneider just before Cantigny's attack and a film done by the French Army after the same attack . . . .

It's, of course possible to describe all this sequences (Units, date and places . . .).

A last think, all documents of ECPA-D, used to be published are with copyright. I am not from ECPA-D and don't received tip. I only think that the members of "the best maket forum in the world" ought to work with the best documents . . . .

In french "La différence entre un amateur et un professionnel est le souci du détail"
