Gun of captured Mark IV
Permalink

Applogies - I am not complete sure to post it here or in "German Tanks", but in fact the Mark IV was only captured by the Germans.

Maybe someone can help me.

When the Germans captured Mark IV and sent them as"Beutepanzer" back into battle, then they changed the gun of the male Mark IVs. They used the same gun as in the German A7Vs.

Now my question: Did they use exaclty the same mounting or a different one? What I am trying to fin out is: Did they use the exactly same shield or a smaller/bigger one? Does anyone have a picture a demounted gun (with shield) of a captured Mark IV?

Cheers
Chris

The 5,7 cm Sockellafette armour shield had a smaller diameter than the one of the British 6 pounder, hence the extra plates to cover the crevices found on a captured Mk.IV male. The German gun was identical to the one used in the A7V.

Thanks mad zeppelin!

Thats exactly what I wanted to know!

But another question comes up with that. The gun and shild was exactly the same as the A7V. But what about the mounting at the bottom of gun and shild. How was it fixed into the sponson? The same socket as in the A7V or different? Any photos or drawings available?

Chris

Gun, shield and socle were one unit - was installed in complete form in the male sponsons.
