US M 1917 Battery & Store Wagon
Permalink

A few weeks ago I picked up a US M1917 Store Wagon. This differs from the Battery wagon only in that it has an indention for carrying the mill stone and does not have a vice fixed to the front end of the under-frame. This one is not in the best of condition and will require a lot of my free time to restore. These vehicles were built by American Car and Foundry and were used to support a number of US Artillery types including the French 75mm and the US M1902 3 INCH. My interest is primarily because of the connection to the 75mm mle/97 French 75mm. In addition to this M1917 and the French 75mm in my collection, I have the M1918 Caisson Limber, M1918 Caisson, a full six horse team of US M1916 Harnessing.

I am interested in information/illustrations/photos of the US Battery & Store Wagon in service. In particular it would be interesting to have a list of what items were carried in the M1917 Store Wagon vs/ the Battery Wagon. I have found some information in Elements of Artillery-1925, The 75mm Gun, the French 75 Model 1897 & 1916, the British 75 Model 1917 and the US 3 Inch Gun Model 1902--1921 as well as the The American Car and Foundry Company in Khaki.

Are there other US M 1917 Battery or Store Wagons in other collections or museum collections?

I am also still looking for an under-frame for the US M1918 Caisson and would be interested in any parts/project M1917 Store & Battery Wagons you might know of.

I have attached a few drawings of the Battery & Store Wagon. I will post photos later.

Hope this is of interest

Most interesting,  Ralph.  Unfortunately,  your pic is in MS Word,  and will not open.

Jack,

Thanks, I will try to get the photos posted later.  The one in Word was a photo from the former owner.  The photos were in some program I could not save any other way.

Hope your doing well

Ralph
