Came across these, which I don't think we've already had. Presumably one of the FTs is Saumur's. Don't know where the other is from.

According to the list of FT tanks on this page

http://the.shadock.free.fr/ww1.html

Saumur has 3 FT tanks and 1 TSF tank. 2 of their 3 'regular' FT tanks are in running condition.

That is an extremely useful document. Ta.

Thi is an interesting line:

Third FT-17 Saumur Tank Museum (France)

This tank is told to have been recovered by French Military Special Forces in Afghanistan

That would indicate that one of the Afghan FTs was given to Saumur and the Americans have kept the other. Some museums I hadn't heard of there. And the Berliet Museum looks splendid.

No, it seems that the Americans kept both of the FT tanks they found. Further down in that list it shows one of those FTs restored and on display in the Patton Museum and the other in unrestored condition in storage at the Patton Museum.

So the one allegedly found by French Special Forces may have indeed been found by French Special Forces in an incident completely separate from the two found by the Americans.

Can't find any mention of French Special Forces. They were in A at the time the FTs were discovered, but the only mentions I can find are of the Americans. I think it must be a misunderstanding. I was beginning to think there must be so many FTs lying around that it would be worth having a look in the shed.

It does seem as though a lot of FTs are coming out of the woodwork. But, if the French Special Forces did find one lying around, they are probably as discreet as other nation's special forces, so, I imagine, one would not find too many references to the fact. Which of course begs the question, 'how does the list's author know?' and the obvious answer to that is, 'the list's author is a colonel in the French Special Forces'!

As far as I know, when the Americans cut a deal with the Afgans to take the FT17 away, some French got mad -Saumur too-  because the French Gov refused to ask for one and appear like "looting" the country.
