Q about A7V Gretchen

Hi there, any clue about the camo scheme (Grey overall ?), and markings (Name, crossbones ?) of Gretchen, when used in action at Villers-Bretonneux ? Thanks, Chris.

Difficult to say. 501 was at B.A.K.P. 20 together with 506, so one should expect her painted in the B.A.K.P. hue like 506. But when looking at the picture showing 505, 507 and 501 at Rosières-en-Santerre after the battle, 501 looks rather light compared to 505 and 507 - and no camouflage scheme can be traced.
It would think that the tank was in the original dark green still (having missed the new paint job at the B.A.K.P.) - but rather dusty and dirty. The name seems to have been painted on the rear right only.
