For anyone interested in this subject, the Polish army published a history of the FT regiment during its combat use in 1920, though it is very hard to find:

Michal Piwoszczuk, "Zarys historii wojennej 1-go Pulku czolgow" (Glowna Ksiegarnia Wojskowa, 1935)

Some of the "Zarys Historji..." series have been reprinted in recent years, but I'm not sure about this one as I haven't visted Warsaw in quite a few years.

Hi all,

I've just come across this post.

I am intrigued by the references in this forum to the formation of the 1st Polish Tank Regiment in France in 1919. My grandfather was one of the 11 Polish Officers who trained in 505 Chars des Blindes, and was transferred to Lodz, Poland in 1919. (After fighting in Russia, he shipped out to France with General Haller's Army through the port of Murmansk, in 1918). He subsequently commanded the 2nd Tank Company, Polish 1st Tank Regiment, during the defense of Grodno in July, 1919, during the Polish-Soviet War. I've been told by two Polish amateur historians that he was the first tank commander in Polish military history to win the "Virtuti Militari". (Awarded on Jan. 26, 1920, Cross # 3380.) Hence, I am very interested in the very early history of this Regiment.  All suggestions are welcome, .. my very rusty French notwithstanding.

Best regards,

Hi Steve, Tanker, and all,

I'm very interested in obtaining a copy of the Polish "Outline of the History of the
1st Tank Regiment' by Michal Piwoszczuk.  My grandfather was his commanding
officer, and they both won the Vituti Militari while serving in this regiment during
the Polish-Soviet War (1919-20.)
My grandfather's VM was awarded on Jan. 26, 1920 (Cross # 3380), and I've
been told by two amateur Polish military historians that he was likely the first
tank commander in Polish history to receive the Virtuti Militari.

It appears that most of the Polish Regimental Histories have been reprinted,
but - as luck would have it - I can't find this one.

Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Steven,

I am very interested the written history of the 1st Polish Tank Regiment.

My grandfather was one of the original 11 Polish Officers in this unit, and
was Michal Piwoszczuk's immediate commanding officer. They were both
awarded the Virtuti Militari for the defense of Grodno (July, 1920) during
the Polish Bolshevik War.

I have been trying to obtain the book you mention for two years, and would
be most grateful for any help in locating a copy.

Thank you in advance.

Best wishes,
