Ford 3-ton in France

Ford only produced 15 of the 2-man 3-ton tanks and apparently, only one was sent to France for testing.  Attached is a Carte Postale of a 3-ton, apparently taken in France.

Bonsoir John,

Here is some informations about Ford 3-ton in France.

A report from Capitaine Boudeville (Ministère de la Guerre n° 1894 UF-3/3 du 25 Septembre 1918) speak of a test at Langres (US Tank Corps Center) on Septembre 23 th, 1918.
Were present :
                  - Service des chars d'assaut américains
                  - 3° bureau de l'Etat-Major américain
                  - Mr Loucheur (Ministre de l'armement et des fabrications de guerre).
                  - Cdt Muller du 3° Bureau du GQG
                  - Cne Boudeville (Sous-Direction de l'Artillerie d'Assaut);

And other report from Lt Ville (Sous-Direction de l'Artillerie d'Assaut) speak about an other test at Is-sur-Tille (20 km North of Dijon) on October 3 th, 1918.

All the documents speak of the only one model tested in france.
The ford tested in France was a mild steel model. (Blindage en acier doux).

On November 5 th, 1918 the General Bourgeois (Directeur de l'Artillerie) spoke to buy 3000 models . . . . !

The same report say, also, that only one exemple was in France (November 3th 1918) and speak of the famous 15 models not again arrived in Europe. . . . .

Michel

Yes, Thanks Michel!

I'd imagine the 3 ton would've made a good artillery tractor had it been put into production. Not really much of a tank though.

Cheers!

Ron
