Tank 4056

Greetings,
Attached is a photo of a destroyed tank, No. 4056. Does anyone know the unit details or history of this tank's destruction?

This was a Mark IV Male of 5th Battalion, destroyed by its crew at Brie on 23 March 1918 as it couldn't be brought across Brie Bridge and was therefore certain to fall into German hands.

There are quite a number of photographs of this tank - I know of at least eight - supporting my hypothesis that if there's one photo of something, there's a second one somewhere.

Thank you Gwyn.  After I recorded your info on the back of this real photo postcard and filed with my other photos, I discovered I had another print showing the destroyed 4056!  You are right, it must have been a popular subject for photographers.

The second print I have is from the same exact angle but just simply closer (actually probably just printed from the same negative as the photo I posted).

Thank you very much for sharing the info on this vehicle. It would be neat to see if others have different views of 4056.

With kindest regards,
John
