Hi there, welcome to the forum. Glad you could join us.
The Airfix male WW1 tank is a contender for the world's oldest kit! Some say late sixties, some say early sixties; but either way, it is old. Despite being so old, it makes up into a decent Mark II with not much effort. With a bit more effort it makes up into the Mark I that it is supposed to be.
Airfix have mumbled about releasing a female version of the kit:
The box for the 'new female' shows wheels at the back so it is meant to be an MkI although as PDA says it can be modeled as an MkII. The major problem is that it in 1/76 not 1/72 but you may be able to live with this!Keep our fingers crossed because in January I e-mailed Airfix and they indicated that it would be out in March (2010 one hopes!)
It has 10 extra pieces - could be just an extra spruce with the bits for the female spondons but whose knows. The artwork shows no silencer so they might have included the bafflers
If you really want to get a good start with WW1 tanks get the Whippet from Emhar
On visiting the Model Show at the Fleet Air Arm Museum I noticed a distinct lack of the new Female MK1 on the Airfix stand ... mind I did also forget to ask them if they knew what was happening, sorry about that.
Good show though with some nice World War One tanks on show.

I'm afraid I didn't take my camera with me. I did try and get some pics with my camera phone but I could only manage a dark blurry image ... maybe use them for a guess the tank competition some time.

Here we go again 00 is a model railway scale used in the UK, HO is what the railway modellers in Europe model to. HO scale wise is smaller than OO. As Airfix do a lot of kits etc for the railway lot hence the use of this odd scale. I don't think its 1:72 but nearer 1:76 or to be more accurate the scale is 4mm=1ft. Confused????? I always have been. But I can't imagine what the PC brigade in Brussels must think about the 4mm=1ft bit perhaps its days are numbered!!!!
The very nice Mr. Hoyle at Airfix has now removed all the inappropriate apostrophes from the website.

They shall grow not old,as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
E-mailed Wonderland models yesterday and had a reply this morning - expecting them in two weeks time, but with a bit of luck sooner.
The giftset is anachronism-aplenty, if it comes with a base could be worth it for that, but the figures are 1914 style and would require a lot of work to be suitable for 1916
Wow, many thanks for the link - came across a site similar to that (probably the same site actually) years ago but lost the link and been trying to find it ever since! Time to give my paypal account a hammering again...
