I believe you mean a Tylor JB4 and not a Taylor?

There are these as well (I'm not as good a photgrapher as Mr Great War Truck, though!):

Yes, it is indeed an AEC Y Type. There are at least five survivors in the UK, of which i think only 1 is running at the moment. The one in this photo is i understand to be restored to a military configuration. Probably wont be able to get anymore photos for now, although i have been invited to come up and take a look at the restoration. If i can do that i will take plenty of photos for you.

Hi Great War Truck,

Very interested in this thread.  I am trying to gather as much info on whippets as possible, as they were all built here in Lincoln.  Do you have any further information on these engines and their supply to Fosters.  Don't be too technical in your reply as I am no engineer!!

I cant really add much to this. Tylors had been going since 1906. The JB4 (which had inlet and exhaust valves side by side) was introduced in July 1913 to meet their equirements of the subsidy scheme. The Tylor in the Y Type had a Claudel Hobson carb, but i dont know for sure what type was in the Whippet, but probably the same. If you want a photo of one of those then let me know. Maybe someone has a photo of the Whippet carb and we can make a comparisson.

This might be one heck of a long shot, but does anybody know what kind of magneto was used on the Whippet mounted Tylor engines?

Thanks

Just to prevent any confusion i can confirm that it was a Thompson Bennett on the Y Type mounted Tylors.
