I have an interesting problem here. I have been in contact with HÄT reagarding them doing another WW1 Armourfast Plastic AFV kit. (Right now I'm painting a test shot of their new American WW1 Infantry.)
I don't know if you are familiar with the Armourfast concept. Personally I like it: the Armourfast kits (1/72) are simple and basic in details but accurate in shape, lending themselves to superdetiling. They also consists of VERY FEW parts. Their FT-17, for example, consist of just 7 parts: two track units, the hull in two halves, the turret, the cupola and the gun. (Compare with the RPM kit in the same scale that consists of at least 90+ parts.)
The HÄT FT-17 seems to have hit off well in sales, and they actually might consider doing another WW1 AFV kit in this maner. But which one?
A good subject should, ideally, lend itself to several variants. It should also be a vehicle that in reality had pretty widespread use, like the FT-17. (HÄT caters principally for Wargamers.) It should also not be too complicated in shape. At first I suggested the Austin Armoured Car: it was used by Brits, Russian, even the Germans (as beute). But the Austin is tricky to mould - a lot of undercuts - and also the hull of the first variant and of the later variant are quite different.
Well, what do you say: any suggestions as to the next WW1 Armourfast subject?
Even though I do not model in 72 of 76 scale, I do enjoy seeing other people get excited, and build these kits, To which Peter you do a great job!!!! I think it would be awesome to see a Seabrook armoured lorry, or a Pierce -Arrow Pom Pom truck. I belive with all the 72 and 76 scale things coming out, I will have to start building them as it seems the 1/35 scale items are so inaccurate.
Now I want to say, that HÄT also considers the possibility of doing White Metal models, in far shorter runs than Plastic Kits, which means that the subjects can be a little more "esoteric". Any suggestions in that category as well?
Ok how about a Tritton Trench Crossing Machine, Armoured Killen Strait,Pedrail Machine,A7VU,Lk 1, Medium Mark D,the list can go on and on, Do they want a wheeled machine, tracked machine, a vehicle that was built, or, just put on paper??? It would also be great to see more rail guns, large artillery, like Italian, and British. Also a Big Bertha would be awesome. And white Metal Figures with more detail would be great.
