Looking for information on the Perinelle-Dumay tank project of 1918
Permalink Closed

Hello everyone

Here is a new one for you, I am looking for some information on the French Perinelle-Dumay tank project of 1918, some sources say it was a project of 1933, this is as far as I know not true, The project was started in 1918 as the French answer to the K-Wagen, and the Flying Elephant projects, it was to be finnished by the 1919 offensive.

I can find no evidence it was ever built in prototype formI have a rather crude drawing from an old Steel Masters Model magazine, along with some rather awesome model pictures, were Paul Malmassari scratch built it. It resembles a stretched out Schneider, with three full track systems on each side. I also have a little information from an old French book from 1920, But alas I can not read French, and Babel Fish translation does not seem to translate to good to English.

Any help would be greatly appreciated                                                                             All the Best

If you need any help with French, I'll be happy to oblige. And German. That goes for everyone, by the way. Well, within reason.

That would be grand Tim! And I can always exercise my schoolboy French (O Level, grade C, back in the days when exams were hard!), I can actually just about get by reading French.

Edition 17 of Steelmasters apparently has an article on a Perinelle-Dumay "Floating Tank". Whether that is WWI or not, can't say. The cover has a couple of nice WWI items on it.

Hi James,

That's where Tim's main info comes from! Thanks for pointing it out, though! I ordered it earlier this week and it arrived within two days - good service. It's an interesting article, the bulk of it is on modelling the vehicle, but there's a fair section on the background which I translated the other day.

No problem, James, that's what this board is for - exchanging information!

I do recommend getting that issue. Also...

...if you like barmy French superheavy tanks, I strongly recommend you get Steelmasters No.15, too (you may as well if you're going to all the trouble of ordering No.17!), there's a superb article on the FCM-F1 (link here: http://www.chars-francais.net/archives/fcm_f1.htm - do click on the 'LA MAQUETTE' link at the bottom of the page).
