Kaiser Wilhelms Staffwagen
Permalink

I am trying to find any reference to Kaiser Wilhelm's staffwagen. He supposedly visited the front lines in a number of converted vehicles including a Mercedes truck purpose built with steps, a stove, an awning, a bed.

Has anyone heard of this vehicle or seen a photo  or drawing of it?

Hello,

I find this inquiry very interesting.I have searched for some years for the elusive Kaiser Staffwagen. I have run across a few mentions of said Kaiserwagen here and there but no solid proof. I would be very interested in finding out if such a vehicle really existed. I am attaching a rather large photo of the King and Countrys version of the Kaiserwagen?????? Just to give an Idea to those scratching there heads as to what to look for.

Good Luck on your Quest.

All the Best

Hi Tim

Thanks for the info. The K&C model is what prompted the question as to whether the Staffwagen was an actual vehicle and if it was, did it look like the K&C model. I suspect that K&C just created one from any stories about it.

Have you read any descriptions of it or read about it's use. If you haven't found any solid references, I really doubt yhere is any info lying about.

NO KIDDING IVAN NO ONE SAID IT WAS THE REAL DAME THINGevileye

I only posted the photo as a reference to what the real vehicle (If there was one) would, could, may have looked like........ But whether or not you agree there are reference's (reliable at that!!!) to a vehicle being built to accommodate the Kaiser on the road.

One of my toy soldier friends wrote to Mercedes and got a reply about the Kaiserwagen including 3 photos.  They (there was more than one in a mini-convoy) did exist, but in a format different than people seemed to think.

I will post photos later.

Mercedes archives provided 3 photos of the Kaiserwagen and they confirm the vehicles were built for the Kaiser Wilhelm II. They were built for the Kaiser while he was on the road prior to WWI

The first photo was labeled "Kaiserliche Feldküche mit Begleitomnibus und Zelt, während des Kaisermanövers im Jahre 1912. (Kaiser Wilhelm 2)" which translates to "Imperial Kitchen box with an accompanying bus and tent, while the Emperor maneuvers in 1912. (Kaiser Wilhelm 2)"

The second photo is labeled "Die Inneneinrichtung des kaiserlichen Feldküchenwagens. (Kaiser Wilhelm 2)" which translates to The interior of the imperial field kitchen car. (Kaiser Wilhelm 2)

1993M2407.jpg

The 3rd photo is labeled "Ein Mercedes Küchenwagen im Einsatz. Bei Regenwetter wurden die Speisen unter aufgeschlagenen Zeltdächern ausgegeben. (Kaiser Wilhelm 2)" which translates to A Mercedes car in kitchen use. In rainy weather, the food was issued under whipped tent roofs. (Kaiser Wilhelm 2)

It looks like the Kaiserwagen was not a single vehicle but was a small entourage.

The same cars have Russian Imperor Nikolas II - 1912 - there was a gift to "cousin" Niki from "cousin Willy".
