Most threads about mortars here are in the artillery section, which probably is why this one
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=63528&p=3&topicID=30482811
didn't receive too much attention.

I too would like to know more about the Russian use of mortars in WW1. I am particularly interested in two aspects:
1. Pictures of the 58mm or 47mm mortars with crew (to determine their position during action)
2. Did the Russians use the Stokes mortar in WW1?

Thanks in advance, regards, Pat

Hi Pat according to Ospreys Russian Army 1914-18, wartime innovations pg 41

"in time for the kerenski offensive of 1917 the british provided 60 tons of 2" mortars , stokes guns(3pdr trench pieces) and ammunition"

Many thanks Ironsides - the title of that book sound promising. Russia's contribution is underrated.
