I was asked if there was any contemporary documentation on the Hotchkiss 3 Pounder gun. Had a look and couldn't seem to find any. This is a bit surprising since there were lots of these guns made and they were used in the late 19th century Navies as anti-torpedo boat guns, in coastal defences and were reissued in WW1 as a deck gun for small vessels. Some 3 Pounders survived until WW2 as training and saluting guns.
Anyone know of any documentation on this gun?

Charlie

Looked in vain also at the Combined Arms Research Library collections. Lots of interesting stuff there on other topics but if there was even passing reference to the QF 3 pounder Hotchkiss there I missed it.
I wonder if these were used on the "armed yachts" of WW1? Can't find any evidence those used the 6-pounder Hotchkiss. Pondering arose when I was recently reminded of the ill-fated HMS/HMY Iolaire, listed in Janes 1919 as an armed yacht (wrecked with great loss of life 1/1/1919 within sight of the lights of Stornoway while returning discharged servicemen to the isles of Scotland). Pictured here in her pre-Admiralty days
Remarkably little seen about these graceful vessels.
