Does anyone know the location of a 1914 pattern Douglas motorcycle that I would be able to photograph (a museum or collection)?

Many thanks

First off, does this hopefully mean you'll making a model one? I'm a big fan of the Douglas - saving up to buy the real thing but a decent model would be very much appreciated. There's a 1913 one which should be more or less identical in the National Motorcycle Museum at Birmingham. I have a decent number of period images, as well as detailed photographs of the one at the museum, if you PM me your e-mail address I can send those over.

Just one thing to note is that the early war ones tended to have the headlamp lower down, which is seen through the war, the later ones had it perched above the handlebars. This photograph showing two Douglas' in 1914 is fantastic for detail, I have a large copy;

Thanks Rob

Thats a great image thanks, and thanks also for the tip-off about the National Motorcycle Museum, I hadn't considered that and its only 30 or so miles from me (doh!)

Plans are in their very early stages, but yes I am planning on modelling one for the Tommy's War range with a couple of despatch riders - but these things take 6 months to develop and are quite complex so it might not happen, and if it does then it will be end of 2011.

I do'nt want to put a damper on things here but Scale Link has a Douglas Model 'R' with rider in their catologue, plus one with sidecar and also the Vickers Clyno. Their Great War range is 1/32 and can be seen at

I've been very tempted to buy both the Douglas and Clyno off Scalelink in the past, but having seen photos of the finished builds, they don't look 'right', especially in the front fork area
