Protected Simplex for Garden Railway
Permalink

A friend has a garden railway, so I'm building a Simplex to run on it.

It's a little heavily built as I'm using whatever I have in the shed.  The shafts will run in bearings.

This it to keep me busy until I can get down to Bovington to confirm some Little Willie details!

The tipper wagon is a freelance design typlical of what I've seen in photos

Hi Barry,

the track is 45mm so the scale should be 1/13.33. As I'm interested in 1/15th tanks I'm building it to 1/15th, shades of OO/HO.

My Garden Rail friend has a number of motor/gearbox units for me to try.

Looks very promising!

How did you do the measuring and drawing Chris, just taken from photo's? That chassis really looks sturdy, great!

Hi Kieffer,  I found on an Australian site a sketch that had some measured dimensions on it, using CAD I drew out the known dims ie, length, height, width, chassis depth etc. and scoured drawings that shows the panels square on and worked from that.

The accuracy is maybe not too good but it will give the impression of a 'Tin Turtle'.

It is a bit over kill on the material, but it's made from off cuts from other projects, the steelwork above the chassis is from old computer cases, cuts well and is ductile.

The weight will help traction when there's leaves on the track, Good ol' British Rail!!
