I am guessing that the machine gun is only fired to the left. Not sure how the driver could see.

Looks like a thin slit ahead of him, he'd have to peer over the rations though - lots of food for just two people!

Perhaps it was designed to operate in pairs like the Marmon-Herrington light tank from the 1930s with right and left hand versions.
