French vehicles behindfrontline

Goodevening,

Found those two pictures somewhere on the web.

Pic 1: French field kitchen. I think a CROCHAT-COLLARDEAU AG2, could it be correct?

Pic 2: Vehicle unknown or not recognized by me. Did the French Army used this kind of "driving shops" (something like YMCA) or is this a civilian trying to sell his "stuff" to the Military?

Tks and nice evening

I think first picture is "La Buire".

Hello Ivan,

I'm not sure, what about this "round nose" at the front of the car. La Buire has another motor cap (See Picture)

Any chance of a close-up of the script on the radiator of the first photograph? I suspect it is Unic. Compare and contrast with this later example: http://camionclubdefrance.a.free.fr/Unic_M1.php

The second picture appears in 'Les Camions de la Victoire 1914-1918' by Boniface & Jeudy @ page 55. It's described as a Peugeot.

Hi Runflat,

Have tried to take a closeup but you can't see any letters (just grey), I'm wondering a bit: the vehicle "stops" with the rounded shield and just has the radiator in front. Your picture and the one of Ivan has a long nose (with radiator screen), of course it could be that there are other "models" with the front of the vehicle more forward.

Here are some more pictures of Unics, albeit cars/taxis. You'll note the similarity in the shape of the radiator (the shampering of all four corners are typical of Unic) to that of the forward-control lorry:

Runflat, Ivan,

Left picture is from the "Field kitchen" Lorry above, Second is from a "La Buire" vehicle, last letter in the first picture looks like a "C" (but I'm not sure),

Anyway, thanks all of You

I think the logo on the cuisine truck ses Unic, in any case what a great pic so much character would make a wonderfull  model too.. the lay out with the high forward cab seems to be fairly common in early trucks and seems to mirror steam truck designs...

Cheerswink

Hello All,

Just to stop and be sure:

Anywone has an contact adress of UNIC, LA BUIRE (I don't think) or another big museum in France, I will write in my best French and ask the question. Not shure of an answer but if Yes, I'll post it here.

Ivan,

I don't follow your argument.

The radiator in the photograph you've posted clearly matches that in the Tankcommander's second post. So, even though the one is a normal-control vehicle and the other a forward-control, I have no difficulty accepting they are both La Buire products. But there is no similarity to the forward-control vehicle in Tankcommander's first post - the chassis and radiators are very different.

Whilst I cannot find any pictures of my own of forward-control Unics, that is not to say they didn't make them. (Does anyone know for sure?) Absent the answer to that question, I stand by what I said, namely that the general radiator design has all the hallmarks of Unic - in particular all four corners have a shampered outline to the grill (a common feature with Unic); and there is a short name on the grill script. So the circumstantial evidence is reasonably high. I'm happy to be shown that the vehicle is not a Unic, but the evidence so far does not in my opinion swing the balance of probabilities in favour of La Buire.

The Foundation Berliet has an extensive archive of material on French trucks - principally those built near Lyon, where La Buire was made. So they may well be able to rule that make in or out. (Unic was made near Paris.)
